Narrowbanding Important Deadline!
January 1, 2013
• All licensees must convert to and operate in at least 12.5 kHz efficiency. Non-compliance will be considered a violation subject to FCC Enforcement Bureau action, which may include monetary fines and loss of license.
• You must ensure that the 25 kHz mode is disabled via software on your dual mode 25/12.5 kHz radios. You must replace all radios only capable of operating at 25 kHz efficiency.
Who is Affected by Narrowbanding?
All users of Land Mobile Radios on channels between 150 MHz and 174 MHz and between 421 MHz and 512 MHz will directly be affected.
When the FCC Narrowbanding mandate goes into effect January 1, 2013, nationwide licensees operating on 25 kHz radios systems will need to operate using 12.5 kHz efficiency channels. Anyone currently license at 25 kHz will need to be licensed at 12.5 kHz or less. If your business or organization does not comply with the Narrowbanding law by 2013, your radio communications will be severely compromised.
What is Narrowbanding?
In the past, LMR (private land mobile radio) systems have used 25 kHz-wide channels. However, in 2004 the FCC mandated that all nationwide users operating on 25 kHz radio systems move to 12.5 kHz narrowband efficiency channels by January 1, 2013.
Motorola is well prepared with 12.5 kHz technology and offers two-way radios in close to 60 models to fit your specific radio communication needs. Take advantage of the most efficient technology with narrowband now. The reduced width of narrowband channels allow additional channels to function in the same spectrum; resulting in the support of more users
What You Can Do To Prepare:
Why delay when you can make the switch now?
Here are a few ways you can prepare for the switch to Narrowbanding:
Evaluate Your Current Equipment:
Evaluate your radio equipment to see if it is capable of Narrowbanding. We can assist you in this process. Simply do the following.
- Complete a radio inventory by model number.
- Contact us to send your inventory list and to discuss which radios will need to be replaced or updated to comply with the FCC mandated Narrowbanding standards.
Update or Obtain New Licensing:
You will need to convert your licensing to Narrowbanding by January 1, 2013. If your license has already been narrowbanded that does not mean your radios are. we can help evaluate your radio equipment to be sure.
